"I’ve gained 20 to 40 hours of free time each week."

Ian Yu, Machine Learning Engineer @ Groupby

Data Scientist @ StraticaX

Where he was...

Hello, my name is Ian, and I am a machine learning engineer at Groupby and a data science consultant at StraticaX. In both capacities, I tackle ambitious projects requiring me to take on multiple roles and responsibilities. On top of these, I am involved in several open research projects within machine learning and maintain an active presence within various AI communities.

On the outside, it may appear to my friends that I am highly productive due to my many commitments. However, inside, I felt I was not doing enough. I often struggled with distractions and found it challenging to make time for self-care, both physically and mentally.

Before working with Optimyzed Brain, I frequently found myself struggling to meet deadlines and fulfill commitments, which led to feelings of exhaustion. My eating habits were erratic and lacked structure. My sleep quality suffered. I was getting around 4 to 5 hours of sleep with inconsistent sleep schedules.

Sometimes I slept at 8 pm and got up at 1 am, but the next day stayed up until 5 am. Despite how exhausted I may have been, I often had trouble falling asleep. Whenever a task required me to think more than execute, I would easily get distracted. On top of that, I was constantly bombarded with meetings while trying to keep track of multiple communication channels, which left me feeling overwhelmed. All of that made it tough to find the energy and motivation to produce the quality of work I wanted.

As an autodidact, I have experimented with numerous productivity hacks, thinking templates, dietary plans, and routines to maintain a healthy body and increase my energy levels. While these methods have yielded some initial success, I have struggled to sustain them over time and develop a consistent habit, as I couldn’t integrate these habits naturally into my lifestyle. I enrolled in Optimyzed Brain’s Unfair Advantage to explore the glue that holds these puzzles together. As someone who lives a busy life from day to night, I understand that time cannot be bought. That said, if there’s a chance where I can invest in increasing my efficiency and productivity, I always jump in. A 2x efficiency per hour is an extra hour gained.

Where he is now.

The first significant change was my ability to recognize areas of my life where I had been making compromises or over-compensating for my perceived notions of how others may perceive me. These compromises were self-sabotaging behaviours that have been hampering my productivity. Going through Optimyzed Brain’s program, I identified and eliminated these self-sabotaging behaviours to improve my efficiency and overall quality of life.

Before, I used to experience mental blocks often, feeling disorganized and scrambled. But after going through Unfair Advantage, I seldom experience mental blocks now. The bootcamp helped me reorganize my goals, see how they can be achieved, and define my next steps more clearly. For example, I have gained clarity on the right tasks to focus on, which enabled me to reduce my workload by about 30-40%.

Through Optimized Brain’s habit-building process, I solidified the knowledge into actionable behaviours. Like working with a personal trainer can make one more conscious of posture and movement, my experience with Optimyzed Brain made me more mindful of what I put into my body and how it affected my physical and mental state. I experienced a heightened awareness of my dietary choices and their impact on my brain and body. For example, before Optimyzed Brain, I was addicted to diet coke. Now I have countermeasures to continue making myself healthier, reducing my cravings for coke, and even avoiding it altogether. I'm more aware of my food choices in social interactions and tend to choose healthier options, in general, that keep me energized throughout the day.

One significant transformation I have experienced is in my sleep. I used to sleep only 5.5 hours on average per night, but now I can sleep 7.5 hours per night with better quality. I fall asleep within 10-15 minutes and naturally wake up around 5 am, feeling more energized after waking up. By implementing small habits throughout the day, I established a consistent sleep routine, which greatly benefited my early morning work schedule. For example, I now have dedicated time to read in the morning to get inspired for the day.

I used to have a hard time getting into a groove for long periods of time. Moreover, I experienced difficulty concentrating for more than 15 minutes at a time, which further contributed to my struggle to keep up with work demands. After going through Optimyzed Brain’s Unfair Advantage, I now have the ability to focus for extended sessions of 90 minutes instead of the previous 15-minute intervals, which has significantly improved my productivity and overall wellbeing.

As a result of these changes, I have been able to reduce my working hours to just under 40 hours per week from the previous 60 hours, despite having multiple jobs and commitments. I can still get the same amount of work done, but more effectively and efficiently.

I’ve gained 20 to 40 hours of free time each week.  Where before, I used to find myself worn out by the end of the workday, with limited energy to spend time with my friends and family or engage in self-care and relaxation. Now, I have time for two to three relaxation activities each week and 1 to 2 hours of quality time with my family and friends.

"the value gained from this investment extends beyond completing the bootcamp and contributes to my long-term personal and professional growth."

It is natural to be skeptical of new information, particularly in today’s age, where vast knowledge is readily available. It is not uncommon to question the value of paying for information that we may already possess or believe we could obtain through self-learning. However, despite that, we struggle with taking actionable steps and unconsciously sabotaging ourselves. This is where Optimyzed Brain has been invaluable. One, synthesizing complex scientific information into adoptable actionable steps that can easily be integrated into my life. And two, receiving accountability through personalized coaching by observing my habits and behaviours. Through Unfair Advantage, I receive personalized recommendations on how to further apply the information to my life effectively. The process saved me time and effort in synthesizing and planning the best course of action. This investment allowed me to streamline the process of integrating new knowledge into my life and avoid self-sabotaging behaviours. Ultimately, the value gained from this investment extends beyond completing the bootcamp and contributes to my long-term personal and professional growth.
